From Vinted to eBay: fees and method 2026

In short

Since 1 September 2026, eBay.fr no longer takes a commission from private sellers in the EEA. Plus: international reach, tech and collectables, with 150 free listings a month.

Yes, you can sell on eBay while keeping Vinted; the two are not competitors, they complement each other. Since 1 September 2026, eBay.fr costs a private seller whose address is in the EEA, on eBay.fr, nothing more than Vinted: 0 commission, 0 regulatory fees. In return, it opens up a market that Vinted does not really cover: international reach, tech, household appliances, collectables and sought-after sneakers. With 150 free listings a month, a private account is enough to test without breaking anything in your current flow: you keep what works on Vinted, and add eBay for what sells better there.

This guide covers what changes in practice when you come from Vinted: the real fees, the difference between private and professional accounts, auctions or fixed price, and a method to get started without losing your margin.

Why does moving from Vinted to eBay change things?

Vinted excels at fashion and everyday items in France; eBay opens the international market and the categories that Vinted covers poorly: tech, electronics, car parts, collectables, sought-after sneakers.

On Vinted, the audience is overwhelmingly French and European, and the format is designed for everyday clothing: a buyer scrolls through a feed, compares prices, buys quickly. eBay works differently: its typical buyer looks for a specific reference (a spare part, a particular sneaker model, a collectable), and is ready to pay the fair price for it, even if it has to come from another country. It is an audience that hunts rather than browses.

In practice, the switch makes sense if part of your Vinted stock matches this profile: a limited pair of trainers, camera or computer equipment, an identifiable vintage object, a collectable. On these items, eBay's international audience can make a real difference in price compared with Vinted, with no commission to pay. On generic textiles, however, eBay brings little more than Vinted.

How much does eBay really cost a private seller in 2026?

For a private seller whose address is in the EEA, eBay.fr no longer takes anything on the sale since 1 September 2026: no commission and no regulatory fees, whatever the category.

FeeVintedeBay (private seller)
Commission on the sale0%0%
Fixed fee per order:€0
Regulatory fees:€0
Free listings per monthUnlimited150, then €0.35 per listing
Shipping outside the eurozone and Sweden:International fees

This table illustrates the new balance: as on Vinted, it is now the buyer who pays the Buyer Protection when they buy from a private individual based in France: €0.10 per item, plus 7% up to €20, 4% from €20.01 to €300 and 2% from €300.01 to €4,000. An item sold for €50 therefore brings you €50. One detail that still catches people out: if you switch to a business account, the commission (12% in fashion, 5 to 12% depending on the category, with lower rates above certain price thresholds, plus €0.35 per order and 0.35% in regulatory fees) is calculated on the total paid by the buyer, including shipping and taxes.

Once you have built up good ratings, the Top Rated Seller status (Top Fiabilité on eBay.fr) rewards consistency: an asset for visibility and trust, not a starting advantage.

150 free listings a month: a real advantage for getting started?

Yes: a private seller has 150 free listings per month on eBay, in fixed price as in auction, which more than covers the needs of a seller testing the marketplace before generalising.

Beyond this quota, each additional listing costs €0.35, whether the item sells or not: unlike the commission, which only applies on an actual sale. In practice, as long as you stay under 150 active listings per month, publishing on eBay costs you nothing as long as nothing sells. If your activity grows to the point of regularly exceeding this threshold, an eBay Shop subscription significantly increases this quota, but this is not a subject for a seller starting out on the marketplace.

Private seller or business account on eBay: which should you choose when coming from Vinted?

The logic is the same as on Vinted: selling your own belongings remains a private account, whereas buying to resell with a regular profit objective falls under professional status, regardless of the number of listings.

eBay distinguishes the two statuses on intent, not on volume: an occasional wardrobe clear-out remains personal, even a generous one; organised sourcing to resell at a profit is a commercial activity, whatever the amount collected. eBay may automatically reclassify a private account judged too active as a business account, without announcing a specific threshold for this switch: the principle of cumulative indicators (recurrence of purchases, stock volume, organisation) prevails, as for any resale marketplace. If this is your case or if you plan to live from it, the subject of status deserves serious attention; our guide on Vinted tax and reporting thresholds 2026 lays the groundwork, valid for any marketplace, eBay included.

A business account also imposes concrete obligations: full legal notices in listings, a clearly displayed return policy, respect of the right of withdrawal, and VAT declaration above the applicable thresholds. Nothing insurmountable, but to be anticipated before extending eBay to all your stock.

Auctions or fixed price: which format should you choose when starting out?

Fixed price remains the safest choice when coming from Vinted; keep auctions for rare items where you know there is real competitive demand.

This is the most visible difference from Vinted and Leboncoin, which work only in fixed price: eBay also offers the auction, where the final price is decided between several buyers. An auction can push the price of a sought-after object above what you would have set yourself, but it requires patience (fixed sale duration) and a minimum of traffic on your listing to work. For a first item published on eBay, fixed price gives you total control and a way of working close to what you already know on Vinted: keep the auction for later, once you know how to recognise the items that justify it.

How to get started on eBay without getting it wrong

The safest method is to start from a targeted selection of your Vinted stock rather than duplicating everything at once.

  1. Spot the items with real eBay potential among what you already sell: sneakers of a specific reference, electronics, collectables, items that a buyer outside France might actively look for.
  2. Prepare a complete listing: sharp photos, a title with the keywords the buyer actually types (brand, model, reference), a precise description, weight and dimensions filled in; essential to calculate a real shipping cost, especially internationally.
  3. Start with fixed price, to find a way of working close to Vinted while you find your feet on the eBay interface.
  4. Calculate your net margin after fees before setting your price: shipping, listings beyond 150 per month, options and international fees must be part of the calculation, not only the displayed price.
  5. Stay responsive on questions and shipping times: this is what builds the reputation that gives access to the Top Rated Seller status (Top Fiabilité on eBay.fr).

Should you leave Vinted to sell on eBay?

No: the right approach is to keep Vinted for your usual flow and add eBay for the items that sell better there, publishing from the same product pages rather than starting from scratch.

This is exactly the principle of crosslisting: a product page prepared once (photos, description, attributes), and published on several marketplaces depending on what suits each item. To go further with the marketplace-by-marketplace comparison, our Vinted vs eBay vs Leboncoin guide details where to sell what depending on your stock.

This is what StoFlow does: you prepare your product once, publish it on Vinted, eBay and your other marketplaces without retyping, and follow orders and messages from a single dashboard. The connection to eBay goes through OAuth, the marketplace's official authorisation: no password shared, and you can revoke it at any time. One point differs from Vinted and Leboncoin, however: eBay listings renew automatically, so there is no manual republishing to plan as with the other two.

eBay is available from the Starter plan at StoFlow, the Free plan being designed to get started on Vinted and Leboncoin. If you want to compare plans before widening your channels, the full price list is on the pricing page.

In the end, the question is not Vinted or eBay: it is which items in your stock are worth being seen by a buyer who is actively looking for them, wherever they are. Test on a small selection, see what sells better than elsewhere, and expand from those results rather than from a general bet.
